Life Integration Using Arts Processes for March 25th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, March 25th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life will feature Marly Milena (Niela Miller) who will share how she created a Life Integration exhibit to help make meaning of her experiences and pursuits, and will give you ideas of how you might go about making one for yourself. She will demonstrate using a drawing board and building tools to symbolize different aspects of a life. Time will be provided at the end for Q&A and contributions from participants.

 

BIO: Marly Milena aka Niela Miller, M.S. Education/Communications, brings her rich background  and training in the arts, Gestalt psychology, Jungian process work, organization development, group dynamics and education to whatever she does. Nonprofit Commons at VWBPE: Creating Impact Through a Community of Practice

This week's Nonprofit Commons meeting will take place at the VWBPE Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education 2016 Conference.


TechSoup's NonProfit Commons (NPC) was designed to create a community of practice for nonprofit professionals, librarians, and social good focused technologists to explore and learn about virtual worlds such as Second Life, and to investigate the many ways in which organizations might utilize these unique environments. Through this community, NPC provides space to qualifying groups, holds regular meetings and network events, offers peer mentoring, and has created a cooperative, social-civic good focused learning environment that fosters outreach, education, fundraising, and impactful mission building, all in a virtual space.

Are Mrs. A and Mr B Getting Better for the February 26th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, February 26th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life will feature Gentle Heron who will review progress on Virtual Ability's research project with the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Now starting the third and final year, this project establishes reasons for healthcare disparities for persons with disabilities. Virtual Ability community members in Second Life have been trained and hired as research staff for the project.

Media, Community and Social Justice for the February 19th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, February 19th, for our weekly TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life meeting, we will be taking a special field trip to the Virtual Ability community for a mixed reality panel presentation. Panelists Courtney Steele, Ellen Lundwell, Alice Krueger will each describe their organizations and how their work addresses the intersection of media, community, and social justice.
 
The panel will be hosted by Dr. Susan Sci, assistant professor of communication at Regis University, Denver, CO, and include:

One Billion Rising: Revolution for the February 12th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, February 12th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life will feature Saffia Widdershins of the One Billion Rising team in Second Life. On February 14th 2013, one billion people from 207 countries around the world rose up to demand an end to violence against women and girls. The event continue yearly with this year’s theme “Revolution” focusing on the most marginalized women and girls to bring about true, long lasting change. The One Billion Rising in SL group will be marking the occasion with a twenty-four hour, one day virtual event that will allow women and men from around the world, to gather, and feature storytelling, performance, and art, along with information on organizations dedicated to promoting justice for women across the globe.

Assistive Technology for Computer Access by People with Disabilities for the January 29th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, January 29thTechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life will feature Edmund LoPresti PhD (Edmondo Barbosa in Second Life) from AT Sciences, LLC , who will take us through a tour of various assistive technologies. Standard keyboards, mice, and monitors are not always the most effective ways to control computers. This talk will cover some of the alternative hardware and software available for people with physical or visual disabilities, or just for better ergonomics.
