Earth Day - Awareness & Sustainability for the April 18th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, April 18th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life is happy to feature Jacques Macaire (jacmacaire Humby in SL), who will discuss Earth Day, environmental awareness and sustainability. Earth Day is an annual global event celebrated on April 22nd to show support for the protection of our planet and those living on it. This year’s Earth Day theme/focus is on Green Cities. Jacques will also share some of the sustainability work of the nonprofit HUMANBE he founded and the work HUMANBE has done in Second Life.

National Youth HIV AIDS Awareness Day for the April 11th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, April 11th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life is happy to feature members of the nonprofit Protect Yourself1 (PY1), Executive Director Monique Richert (Chayenn in SL), and PY1 Development Consultant, Tom Kujawski (Incarn8 in SL), who will commemorate the 2nd annual observance of: National Youth HIV AIDS Awareness Day - NYHAAD.

 

Today's young people are the first generation who has never known a world without HIV and AIDS. In the United States, one in three new HIV infections are among youth ages 13 to 24. 

 

Through the Safe2Live and Project Arrowhead programs presentation, Chayenn and Incarn8 will inform NPC members about the importance of education, how PY1 keeps At-Risk Youth in the Washington -Baltimore Corridor safe and protected from HIV/STIs infections. Only by investing in young people in all aspects of the HIV and AIDS response we will achieve the dream of an AIDS-free generation.

Virtual Money & Digital Currencies for the April 4th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, April 4th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life meeting will feature a conversation on digital currencies. Recently the IRS published guidelines on virtual currency, and we will overview what those are, how that might impact virtual worlds, as well as what crypto-currencies like Bitcoin are, and how they might be used for good.

Creating Virtual Museum Environments for the March 28th NonProfit Commons Meeting

Friday, March 28th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life meeting will feature Joe Rigby (Pontefractal in Second Life), who will discuss using virtual worlds to create virtual museum experiences. 

 

Joe is co-founder of MellaniuM (http://mellanium13.blogspot.ca), a developer of immersive environment content for the AVAYALIVE ENGAGE platform. They have recently developed a virtual museum using photorealistic textures generated by photogrammetry and 3d objects created from laser scanned items from the Usher gallery of the Lincoln museum in the UK.

Drive-Through ESL for the March 7th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, March 7th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life meeting will feature Janette Nacilla (Jan Avi Ray in Second Life) and the Drive-Through ESL project, that is part of the virtual English Second Language School. Drive-Through ESL is one of the many organizations in Second Life that help international students learn English as their second language.

Jan Avi Ray (Janette Nacilla) is a Medical Technologist working under the Ministry of Heath of Saudi Arabia, both a student of the Drive-Through ESL an English Language School and a member of the Drive-Through ESL Help Team. She is also a member of Virtual Ability and Second Life's Cure Chasers. SL's Cure Chasers is a group formed to support Relay for Life in Second Life. This group is open to anyone who wants to participate in the Relay for Life in SL campaign.

NPC Member Spotlight: Americans for Safe Access for the February 28th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, February 28th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life meeting will feature our latest NPC member Tom Kujawski, of Americans for Safe Access, and the Americans for Safe Access Foundation, to learn more about the nation's patient and providers union united to advance medical marijuana therapeutics and Research.

Tom Kujawski (INCARN8 in SL) is a seasoned non-profit executive with 25+ years experience and specializes in developing sustainable public, private cross-sector partnerships, advancing funding portfolios, and engaging the community.  "Inc" is an active Board member of Americans for Safe Access and the Americans for Safe Access Foundation.

Using Community Wikis for the February 21st NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, February 21st, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life meeting will focus on using wikis for community projects. Monique Richert (chayenn in SL) will go over how to create an account, and start your profile on our own NonProfit Commons wiki. And our featured discussion will discuss further options and ways to collaborate using a wiki, along with other wikis for reference and inspiration.

The Love Foundation for the February 14h NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, February 14th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life meeting features Harold W. Becker (HB Eternal in SL) and John T Goltz (JT Christos in SL) of the Love Foundation, who will share the vision of love as it relates to their nonprofit, The Love Foundation, their programs, and presence in Second Life. The Love Foundation organizes Global Love Day – an international celebration of humanity – which takes place each year on May 1st. Global Love Day events occur around the world and are also hosted virtually in Second Life. 

 

The Love Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization with the mission of inspiring people to love unconditionally. Our vision is to assist people by building a practical foundation and understanding of unconditional love within individuals and society as a whole. Established in 2000, we have become an international leading resource for sharing the awareness of unconditional love.

 

Bio: 

Harold W. Becker is the author of several books including, Internal Power: Seven Doorways to Self Discovery, Unconditional Love – An Unlimited Way of Being, and Unconditional Love Is... He holds an MBA from the University of Tampa and since 1990 has devoted his energy to raising the awareness of humanity through his consulting company, Internal Insights. In 2000 he founded and is President of the nonprofit, The Love Foundation, Inc., with the vision of “inspiring people to love unconditionally.” He also founded Global Love Day for May 1st each year. Harold shares his powerful understanding about life through books, PBS television specials, workshops and living his own high ideals.
