Kiva in SL's Grand Opening Party at the NPC a grand success.

The Grand Opening of Kiva in Second Life's office was a grand success. Our final avatar count was 41, which included the people who dropped in through the ceiling. There were several reporters there, including the editor from Prim Perfect.

There was dancing and champagne, and talks by Skeeboo Tammass (Joe), Elron, and Julles Boucher (Julia) about Kiva and Kiva Friends and all that is going on in Second Life about Kiva.

KivaFriends Tour - Visit to the Ectopia Sim

KivaFriends in SL is starting to tour Second Life. These tours are social events open to everyone, they are very informal, we will just be visiting sims together to explore and learn about what's going on in Second Life. When we can, we'll have the sims owners join us and give us personal tours.

The first tour will be January 12th, 10:30am - 12pm SL (Pacific time). Details about the event are

Kiva has moved into the Non Profit Commons! We are located in office #23, in the top left of the sim. Our kick-off opening party will be:

Saturday January 5th, 2008, 10:30am-12noon

Tell all your friends!

Any new Kiva lender or anyone who makes a Kiva loan during the event can receive a Real Life kiva wristband.

The largest inworld Linden donation between 10:30-12 will relieve a 2008 Kivafriends Calendar .

Most of my regular duties for Millions of Us revolve around -- one way or another -- building communities. I think non-profits involved in Second Life have an opportunity to really engage visitors and successfully evangelize their cause, not only using the platform as a mean to distribute information, but also as a means to form a network of support, raise funds, and provide experiental environments.

This year, Congressman Edward Markey (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, decided to avoid the carbon cost of flying and deliver his speech via Virtual Bali. Virtual Bali is the Second Life, carbon-friendly alternative to this year's UN Climate Summit (COP 13) meeting in Bali December 3-14th.

As it grows, and is ultimately sold to a consumer, this tag, with an anonymously numbered "I was Hugged" tag on it, This can be traced through an online database, so that the two parties, if they wish, can correspond about the tree, where it is planted, how it is doing, what it's name is etc.
This raises the love and awareness of our precious tree resources and is a social networking active way to further more plantings and raise the conscious of our citizens.
