Did you know that you can redirect the wikispaces

wiki to your own domain name? It costs an extra fee per month - like $20 to do that. You might be able to direct it to a folder in the domain.

Or is that what you were asking? Were you asking to move entire content into another wiki software application that was installed on your servers?

the pros and cons as I see it of moving to npsl.nonprofitcommons

The new wiki URL would be (if we were to move it) http://npsl.nonprofitcommons.org.

Here are the pros and cons:

pros:

  • single domain
  • no ads
  • more user restrictions and additional permissions and settings
  • we could create more wikis if we needed to
  • custom style-sheet to make it look like the rest of the site

    cons:

  • many people already know this URL, not sure about the ease of a redirect
  • this may be a difficult endeavor
  • Shouldn't be too hard

At the very least, it could be a redirect / masked URL, which is pretty easy to do.

    www.rikomatic.com

    Who will migrate the data?

What is the plan for getting it set up here and migrating the data?

    Migration

    Hi guys,

I (kevin from techsoup) will do the migration and should be quite seemless. In essence it'd be moving it from a free account at wikispaces to their "Private Label" account, which is their hosted solution with a bit more perks.

    didn't see these other comments

This is a no brainer .. redirect it .. - that removes the cons .. and gets you the pros

    I concur

I agree with Kanter. Lets do it.

    You cannot do a redirect

Wikispaces will not redirect, but Tom Maroney suggested a place holder on the old URL: {http://npsl.wikispaces.com} to say :Wiki has moved to nonprofitcommons.org, click here...

Yeah, I tried to do a redirect

...on my own test wikispace and it borked it up something fierce.

Many thanks to Brownrice Internet for hosting the NPSL site.
